Using Business-in-a-Box Do I need Microsoft Word to use Business-in-a-Box? No. You have the choice of using either the default Business-in-a-Box text editor or Microsoft Word (provided it is installed on your computer).
How do I find a document? There are two ways to find a document: a) Browse the document folders located in the left-hand window pane (if the document tree is not visible click the "View Document Library" button in the top-left corner). The "Browse" tab in the left-hand pane should be selected.
OR
b) Perform a keyword search by clicking the "Search" tab in the left-hand window pane (if the document tree is not visible click the "View Document Library" button in the top-left corner).
Can I save a document in Microsoft Word (.doc) format? Yes. Business-in-a-Box Pro allows you to save documents in Microsoft Word (.doc) and Rich Text Format (.rtf) formats. To do so, simply use the "File > Save As" function of your word processor.
How do I activate Business-in-a-Box? To unlock all the documents and features of Business-in-a-Box, you must first activate it with a product key. A product key is obtained when purchasing Business-in-a-Box from our online store.

Retrieve the Product Key that Was Emailed to You
Check your email to retrieve your product key.
Make sure you check your spam/junk mail folder in case our email was placed there.
Your product key product was also provided on the “order successful” page.
Please make sure you COPY your product key by selecting it with your mouse and hitting Ctrl+c on your keyboard (or drag your mouse across the product key, right-click and select Copy):

Activation
Open Business-in-a-Box.
From the top menu, go to Help > Activate Your Software:

Then PASTE (do not type in) your product key in the activation box:
After you paste in your product key, simply click Activate. You will obtain the following confirmation message:

This Activation process requires a live Internet connection.
If you get a message telling you that Business-in-a-Box is unable to connect to the Internet, please disable your Firewall or configure it to allow Business-in-a-Box to access the Internet through ports 8080 and 8443, close Business-in-a-Box, then repeat the steps above.

Will you add new templates? Absolutely! Business-in-a-Box is an evolving product. Our library grows every day thanks to the comments and requests made by users like you. We certainly appreciate your feedback and do our best to add the most requested documents. If you haven't found what you are looking for, feel free to suggest a document.
Editing & Customizing Documents Can I edit the document templates? Of course! All documents can be completely edited thanks to Business-in-a-Box's embedded word processing capabilities. Simply open a document and type into it. You can use a template as many times as you need since a modified version will be saved under a new file name.
How do I customize a template? You can customize a template by directly typing into it. Elements that should be customized, like service descriptions, payment terms, prices and deadlines, are identified by brackets and [UPPERCASE CHARACTERS].
Some customizable elements, such as e.g. [STATE/PROVINCE], can appear repeatedly throughout a document. You can use the "Find and Replace All" function in your word processor to replace all instances of these elements with your customized information.
You may sometimes find that some clauses are too restrictive or that entire articles do not apply to your situation. These clauses may be removed, however you must make sure that they do not affect the validity and structure of the entire agreement.
How do I use the Auto-Fill function? The Auto-Fill function allows you to automatically enter your company information into the relevant fields of a document. First make sure that your information is accurate by accessing "Edit > Auto-Fill Information" from the Business-in-a-Box menu. Then open a document and click the "Auto-Fill Document" button that is located at the bottom left. Your information will then be placed into the appropriate fields of the open document.
Business-in-a-Box Pro What's the difference between the demo and Business-in-a-Box Pro? Business-in-a-Box Pro grants you full control over all documents. It allows you to use cut, copy and paste functions, export content into other applications and save documents in the following formats: Microsoft Word (.doc) and Rich Text Format (.rtf).

Do I need to uninstall the demo before I purchase Business-in-a-Box Pro? No, in fact it's best to first install the demo. Once you have obtained a product key you will need to enter it in the demo to upgrade from the demo version to Business-in-a-Box Pro.

Legal Issues Are the documents legal? Who are the authors? All templates contained in Business-in-a-Box are legally valid and have been written by lawyers, business professionals and consultants. We use many of our own templates in the course of our daily relations with clients, shareholders, partners and co-workers.
My company is located outside the USA. Given that the laws in my country are different from US laws, can I still use Business-in-a-Box? The answer is yes. In fact, Business-in-a-Box is used in over 190 different countries. We have thousands of clients in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, France, Switzerland and Hong Kong, just to name a few countries. The legal document templates you will find in Business-in-a-Box are "general" rather than specific, meaning that we do not refer to any local/state/country law but instead we indicate what "type" of law to refer to (e.g. [YOUR COUNTRY]'s Foreign Trade Law or [YOUR STATE/PROVINCE] Employment Discrimination Law). Since the laws are constantly changing, Business-in-a-Box would not be a trustable tool if our documents were to refer to outdated regulations. This is indeed why we prefer to help our users choose the appropriate law for their country or industry, rather than proposing legal clauses that are not suitable for their situation. In most cases, the templates will require only minor customization - these do-it-yourself document models were created to fit general business needs, with little impact resulting from which country(ies) or industry(ies) you operate in.
Technical Issues I received an error message, what should I do? Please keep a record of the error message and contact a Business-in-a-Box Technician.
How do I uninstall Business-in-a-Box? Simply use the Business-in-a-Box uninstaller. To use the uninstaller: from your desktop taskbar go to "Start > All Programs > Business-in-a-Box > Uninstall Business-in-a-Box."
